Thanks for the email Mackenzie and He is here to help. You are a college student, so He went searching for some stylish outfits that won't break the bank. Next probably the first formal event you are having with the family, so He doesn't want you to make a bad impression or stand out to much. He is going to suggest a short dress, as it's a more fun option. Also He is going to suggest a black dress, probably an evening affair, and its a sexy color, after all we want the family/guets to be impressed. Make sure whatever dress you pick you get a pair of high heels to go with the dress. And remember "the higher the heel, the hotter the girl."
