Intensity 4 Earthquake strikes off Baguio

Early morning, yesterday, residents of Baguio City and nearby areas were awakened from sleep after an earthquake struck, a day after 3 mild tremors hit the Mountain City.

According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs), the Summer Capital felt the
Intensity 4 earthquake at around 6:20 am on Friday, February 18, 2011.

The quake also jolted some parts of Northern Luzon. It was felt at Intensity 3 in San Fernando, La Union, and Intensity 2 in Burgos, Ilocos Sur. The quake's epicenter was 10 kilometers northwest of La Trinidad,
Benguet.

Philvolcs added that the quake was of tectonic origin and that it expects aftershocks. However, the institute said it does not expect any damage from the earthquake.

Based on PHIVOLCS' Earthquake Intensity Scale, an Intensity 4 earthquake has this general impact:

IV Moderately Strong - Felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. Light sleepers are awakened. Vibration is felt like a passing of heavy truck. Hanging objects swing considerably. Dinner, plates, glasses, windows and doors rattle. Floors and walls of wood framed buildings creak. Standing motor cars may rock slightly. Liquids in containers are slightly disturbed. Water in containers oscillate strongly. Rumbling sound may sometimes be heard.

Residents of Baguio can't help to get worried since it reminds them of the tragic event 20 years ago when a 7.8 earthquake devastated their area that killed over a thousand people and left a wide swath of devastation.

Later in the evening, two more magnitude 3 earthquakes were felt in Baguio City.

February 25, a special holiday for schools!

In lieu of the 25th anniversary celebration of the 1986 People Power Revolution in EDSA (EDSA I), Malacañang has announced that there will be no classes in all school levels on February 25, 2011 (Friday).

Yes, February 25 has been declared a special holiday for schools only. It will be a regular working day for employees. However, Malacañang urged employers to allow their workers to leave early on that day.

The 1986 EDSA Revolution led to the proclamation of the late Corazon Aquino, mother of PNoy, as the 11th President of the Republic of the Philippines. The historical event ousted the 14-year martial rule of dictator Ferdinand Marcos and thus, bringing back the country's democracy.

PNoy on Ferdinand Marcos heroes' cemetery burial

President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy) has not made his position yet about late President Ferdinand Marcos' burial at Libingan ng mga Bayani.

"Anything I say on the matter sasabihin decided on a subjective basis rather than on an objective basis. We would want to spare our country from that," Aquino said yesterday. "I have a government official whom I will task to study (it)." PNoy told GMA News.

The son of the late President Marcos, Sen. Bongbong earlier said on reports that it is the right of his father whose remains have lain in state inside a refrigerated crypt at his family’s ancestral home since 1993, to be finally buried at the heroes' cemetery.

"We've always said that it's his right as a former president, as a former soldier, as a bemedalled soldier, that he be buried in Libingan ng mga Bayani, and it's very clear that that is his right," Senator Bongbong Marcos told reporters on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, PNoy admitted that Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani would implicate many things.

Should it be in recognition of his being a soldier during World War II, should it be because he was former commander in chief, should it be because he was a former president," the President said.

“Of course there will be a sector, a significant sector, especially we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of EDSA (People Power Revolution) by next week, na nagsasabi na bibigyan natin ng honor as commander in chief and as president, hindi ba tinaggal iyung mandato sa kanya ng taumbayan. So paano magkakaroon ng entitlement," PNoy added.

Plants vs. Zombies Theme Song (Lyrics and Video)

The PopCap Game Plants vs. Zombies is really one fun game. It can even be addictive. It is simple and yet the gameplay is superb!

I have been hooked up with it recently, too. Haha, yeah. And what I like is that after I finished all the levels and stages I get to enjoy a very cute music video of the game's theme song "There's a Zombie on your Lawn".

Let's me share to you this Youtube clip and Lyrics of Plants vs. Zombies Theme Song. Enjoy! :D

"There's a Zombie on your Lawn" Lyrics

There’s a zombie on your lawn
There’s a zombie on your lawn
There’s a zombie on your lawn
We don’t want zombies on the lawn

I know your type: tall, dark, and dead
You want to bite all the petals off of my head
And then eat the brains of
the one who planted me here

I’m just a sunflower but see
me power an entire infantry
You like the taste of brains
we don’t like zombies

I used to play football
Road cones protect my head
I have a screen-door shield
We are the undead

Maybe it’s time to reevaluate
I know you have a lot of food on your plate
Brains are quite rich in cholesterol

You’re dead so it doesn’t matter,
Instead we’ll use this solar power
to make a lawn defense at any hour

I like the tricycle
There’s butter on my head
I’m gonna eat your brains

The girls were only rescued on May 14, 2010 when a man surnamed Du found a note in a partially dismantled television while his friend's electronics repair shop.

The note also contained a hand-drawn map that directs to the dungeon, including the telephone number and address of Zhou's family.

8 Pesos Jeepney Fare to take effect on February 2, 2011

After the taxi fare increase during the start of the year, another burden to regular PUV (public utility vehicles) commuters is about to take effect this month of February.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the P8 jeepney fare in Manila which is P1 more than the current rate of P7. The provincial P1 jeepney fare increase was also approved by the Board. The said fare hikes will take effect on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.

Via Inquirer, Manuel Iway, an LTFRB board member, released the following statements:

“The provisional increase was granted because the board took judicial notice that the prices of goods have been going up, as well as the cost of maintaining jeepney operations, affecting the livelihood of operators.”
, Iway said.

While the interest of the public is still the main concern, we must also protect the rights of the jeepney operators, who are serving vital industries,” Iway added.

Pasang Masda and the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines were the people behind the request of the newly approved jeepney fare hike.

New Zodiac Sign Dates 2011: Earth Rotation causes Horoscope Signs to change

Apparently because of the Earth's changing alignment in the last 3,000 years, the Zodiac sign that you are used to may not anymore be the one you look up on a Horoscope. The astronomers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society found that the alignment of the stars was pushed by about a month because of the moon's gravitational pull on Earth. According to them, here are the new dates where the real signs of the Zodiac should fall. Are you ready?

Here are the New Dates of the Zodiac Signs:

Aside from the dates, did you notice something else that's new? Yeah, they added a new sign which is Ophiuchus. According to Time.com,

"The constellation Ophiuchus represents a man wrestling a serpent, dividing the snake's body in two parts. It is the only sign of the zodiac linked to real men, sharing traits with Imhotep, a 27th century BCE Egyptian doctor, and biblical Joseph.

Like Imhotep, Ophiuchus is considered a healer of men and a doctor of medicine or science. He seeks higher education and enlightenment. He is expected to achieve a high position in life."

Did your Zodiac Sign change?
